Dear part-time instructor,
You might not actually be employed part-time, because, you know, I don't know you. You are not full-time faculty, though, as I do know them. Maybe you are a graduate student? Maybe you are an adjunct? Lecturer? I don't know. But the thing is, you also don't know me.
So, really, just a thought: you might avoid telling people-- in full hearing range of anyone walking by and people you have never met-- that you think your students are stupid and lazy. Just sayin'. You could have made that statement in front of someone who will make decisions about your future as a lecturer/adjunct (or whatever). You could have mentioned this in front of the provost or president. You could have mentioned in front of someone who would blog about it. But most of us who are in the teaching profession like our students. We don't think they are "stupid and lazy" (maybe they are immature, maybe they make choices we wouldn't make, maybe they struggle to balance God-only-knows-what in relation to a full academic schedule), but most of them are not stupid and most of them are not lazy. Again, just sayin'.
Oh, and one last thing: Really, even if you don't like your students (because we all don't always like our students), that's OK. You just might not say so out loud, you know, in front of strangers. On second thought, if you really don't like your students, maybe you should just get another job. Leave the teaching of students to those of us who enjoy the work and appreciate the people sitting in our classrooms.
Just sayin.'
