The Meme of the Mundane
Meagan tagged me for this, and since I met Meagan last week, I'm happy to play along.
Favorite laundry detergent:
- Gain Original Fresh (dryer sheets, too)
Favorite item used for an unintended purpose:
- My camera. OK, it's used to take photographs and it does, but in some very tangible ways, I'm able to express myself photographically when I can't (or shouldn't) verbally. (Maybe this doesn't really fit the category, but there you go. I'm an anarchist.)
Favorite way to buy music:
- Buy? Oh, we have to BUY music? I get a lot of music from friends on line (samples, and things, of artists and genres I wouldn't think to buy), but I'm an iTunes fan if I have purchase the stuff.
How clean is your car?
- Actually, it's fairly clean. Not cluttered at all. There is, however, dog hair from when I took the dog to the groomer's the other day. She sheds like nobody's business when she's nervous and excited. Since the seats are leather, it's pretty easy to clean.
How clean is your apartment/house/room?
- Uh, now? It's clean. A few dirty dishes in the sink, some dog toys in the living room floor, and clothes in the dryer that need to be folded. But overall? Clean.
How clean is your office?
- This time of the semester? It's a mess. I need to organize and clean tomorrow.
Favorite weekly free time:
- I don't think I have any free time during the week, or at least it doesn't feel as if I do, as I think about the dissertation all. the. damn. time. I need to remedy this.
Is there a word, phrase, or gesture that is identifiably yours?
- I have two and I don't know when or why they started, as they are both really really stupid. I do the "thumbs up" gesture all the time, and it even makes me cringe. Secondly, at the end of most classes as I'm dismissing students (and this is embarrassing), I salute. "OK, have a great afternoon," I say as I'm saluting. I have no idea where that came from. Now that I've written this down, maybe I'll stop it. I hope so.
Most effective medicine for one (or more) of your ailments:
- I still have a sore right knee from spraining it earlier this year, and I've found that I LOVE IcyHot. It makes me smell like an athlete.
A favorite thing you try to sell/push/encourage your friends to try:
- Springsteen and Japanese food.
Favorite new (or new-to-you) thing:
- I stumbled upon this website a while back and I love it. Shorpy: History in HD -- High-Resolution Historical Photos. Some of these photographs are simply amazing . . . of people and places. Real life stuff. For an example of one of my favorite, check this out, "The Turner Garden at Waban, MA, 1910."
And I know that you want to play along, Chris, Pilgrim/Heretic, David, Jo(e), and Terry.
Great tip on Shorpy!
